Senior Living Options
Independent living is a type of senior living facility that caters to individuals that do not have personal care needs but no longer want to bother with the tasks of daily living. Generally two meals a day are provided as well as weekly housekeeping, social and recreational activities, and transportation services.
Assisted living facilities in can accommodate seniors with a wide spectrum of care needs. Assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and medication management all the way up to total care is provided in assisted living. Assisted living facilities also offer three meals a day, housekeeping services, and recreational activities.
Skilled nursing care is generally provided for a short period of time in a skilled nursing facility (SNF). Skilled nursing is usually covered under medicare following a 3-day hospital stay for the purpose of physical, occupational, or speech therapy. This is referred to as sub acute rehabilitation. Some seniors may require long term care in an assisted living facility once their rehab period in skilled care is completed.
Arizona Senior Living Options
Senior living options can very widely from state to state. For example, care that is considered assisted living in Arizona may only be available in a skilled nursing care facility in another state. All assisted living facilities in Arizona are licensed by the Arizona Department of Health. The majority of assisted living homes are licensed for the highest level of care (directed level care) and can accommodate high acuity residents such as those requiring: blood sugar monitoring, sliding scale insulin injections, transferring assistance, wound care (in coordination with home health care), and incontinence care including catheter and colostomy bags. Arizona senior living facilities such as Independent Living Communities are not licensed by the Arizona Department of Health because they are not licensed to provide care directly to their residents. Many independent living communities, however, have a licensed home care agency onsite to assist their residents with basic care needs. Care and the associated fees are arranged through the home care agency. Residents in a senior living facility of any kind can always hire an outside home care agency to assist them with their care needs.
